The last summer was a big one for Milan as it was the start of the new Rossoneri project which focuses on low costs and youth as they said goodbye to legends like Rino Gattuso, Clarence Seedorf, Alessandro Nesta and Filippo Inzaghi.
Milan also famously sold their two best players in Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for €62 million to Paris Saint-Germain. However, the current squad – the one based on less star players – is actually worth more than last year’s squad.

According to the numbers published in today’s edition of the newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, the current Milan squad is worth €244 million while last year’s squad was worth 204 million. The player with the highest value in this squad is of course Mario Balotelli. Milan signed him from Man City for roughly €22m but Gazzetta writes today that his value is €40m.
Thiago Silva was the most expensive player with a value of €42 million. The value of some players has risen in less than a year and so Mattia De Sciglio, who was worth €3 million last year is not worth €20 million, according to Gazzetta, after becoming a regular for Milan and he already has two caps for Italy. El Shaarawy’s value has doubled itself and he’s now worth 30 million while M’Baye Niang, who was signed from Caen in the summer for €2 million, is now worth €15 million.
This squad may be worth more than last year but at this stage last season Milan had 63 points and they were in the first place in the standings. This current Rossoneri have 54 points in third and are two points away from reaching the second.
